I am highly motivated and very keen to continue my venture into Information Technology. I believe my adaptability and interest for the future development of computing will complement my career path.   • Employment

    July 2004 – Present: Kerridge Computer Company as a programmer/analyst

    My role involves the development of new software applications and the maintenance of existing systems for the internal IT infrastructure of Kerridge. Although primarily a programmer this role also provides the opportunity to become involved in the full software life cycle. Technologies that I use are KCML (A procedural language developed by Kerridge which has similarities ranging from C to Visual Basic), Visual Basic, XML, SOAP, ASP, KDB (Kerridge Database), MS SQL Server, on both Windows and Unix platforms.

    July 2002 – July 2003: Syntegra industrial placement as a database and Unix administrator

    Responsibilities included: Junior administration of Unix operating system and Oracle 9i databases, Shell and PL/SQL scripts to perform administration tasks, full design and development of a library application using Java Server Pages, JDBC, Java, Oracle 9i, and Apache technologies, construction of basic web sites, management of a mobile server and devices (RIM Blackberry technology), undertaking of a mobile technology project consisting of testing technology such as PDA’s, mobile servers, and Wireless LANS.

    Summer 2001: Mc Alpine Homes as a Material Co-ordinator

    Responsibilities included: Material management. Delivery assessments and prepartion. Practical assisting in construction of houses. General tidying of construction site. Helping individual trades and sub-contract companies. Security management. I also assisted with the making of a NHBC training video.

    Computing skills

    Platforms Competent user in Windows (2000 and XP), Solaris, and Red Hat Linux.

    Core technologies My programming experiences at University were primarily in Java and I have used libraries such as AWT and Swing, as well additional Java technologies such as JDBC, Java Servlets and JSP. I have most recently been working with technologies such as C#, Visual Basic, and ASP. I have spent free-time learning these for the development of personal projects.

    My commercial experience is primarily in KCML, although I have also used Visual Basic for some projects.

    Other languages I have some experience of are C, Shell Script, Prolog, and Assembler.

    Web technologies I have had commerical and personal experiences in PHP, XML, JavaScript, HTML, Apache, Tomcat, IIS, SOAP.

    Databases I have a good working knowledge of:

  • Achievements

  • Surfing in the University Nationals in 2001, 2002 & 2004.

  • Received black belt in Tae Kwon-Do at the age of 13.

  • Winning a Bath Town running race sponsored by Reebok.

  • Member of the school basketball team, coming 2nd in a tournament.

  • Completing the Ten Tors bronze and silver team challenge across Dartmoor. I was team navigator on both ocassions. The treks were a distance of 35 and 45 miles in 1997 and 1999.



  • Responsibilities and voluntary work

    University Surf Club Equipment Officer As an equipment officer for the surf club I was responsible for all the surf club equipment. I have to keep regular checks on the equipment we own, and make decisions on what the club needs in order to improve the club. When the club recieves a budget I am responsible for purchasing the necessary euipment. I am helping to plan the organisation of a fund raising event to boost our funds.

    Band Concert for Charity To help the children in need fund raising for our school , our band decided to do a charity rock concert. We raised over £100 by selling tickets to members of the school and family. We played covers and our own material. There was an article about the concert in the weekly news letter.

    Freshers Helper for University This involved helping the new students in settling into university life.

    Helping Year 7 pupils in the music lessons for 3 months As part of my school voluntary work I assisted the teacher with practical lessons. I helped and guided students whilst composing on instruments such as the guitar and keyboard.

    School Guide and Band performances for Culverhay during parents evenings Showing parents around the school and performing live music during parents evenings for the music department.

    Sports and interests

    Surfing I am very passionate about surfing and surf regularly with the surf club and friends. Although I do not live near the coast I travel to Devon and Cornwall. I have also surfed in Portugal and France. My ambition is to surf in Hawaii and do well in the University Surf Nationals, 2004.

    Mountain Biking I am a mountain bike enthusiast who enjoys social rides with friends and the University Club. I occasionally race competitively.

    Football I enjoy social games of five-a-side football with friends, and played every week with a company team during placement.

    Running, Swimming & Gym Fitness I regularly run, swim, and go to the gym to keep fit and assist with my other sports and interests.

    Band Guitarist I have played the electric guitar since the age of 10, and have been highly influenced by rock music but enjoy playing all other music types. I have been a member of several bands. My aim is to play a gig at the Moles club in Bath.
